From January to July 2026, China’s e-commerce maintained stable and innovative development. The integration of online and offline channels unlocked consumption potential, while digital intelligence empowered industrial transformation and upgrading, expanded the breadth and depth of international economic and trade cooperation, and helped strengthen and grow the real economy.
Stable performance of the consumer market. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, national online retail sales of goods and services grew 4.8% in the first seven months. MOFCOM estimates this contributed over 50% to the growth of total retail sales of consumer goods and services. Online channels expanded the scope of goods consumption and improved the convenience of services consumption. NBS data shows the share of online retail sales by enterprises above designated size reached 28.7%, up 2.5 percentage points year-on-year. On key e-commerce platforms monitored by MOFCOM, online travel and online lifestyle services sales rose 24.9% and 16.3% respectively in Jan–Jul.
Empowering the transformation and upgrading of three major industries. E-commerce leverages innovative technology, massive data and diverse scenarios to drive the digital-intelligent transformation of agriculture, industry and services. The 「Digital Commerce for Rural Revitalization」 initiative deepened, integrating digital technology with agricultural and rural development. MOFCOM big-data monitoring shows online retail sales of agricultural products and rural goods grew 12.8% and 5% respectively. Local authorities were guided to cultivate 「e-commerce + industrial clusters」 and connect platforms with characteristic industry hubs; monitored industrial and chemical product B2B e-commerce transactions grew 1.4% and 1.2%. Online shopping and digital content drove rapid growth in related services; according to the State Post Bureau, express delivery revenue rose 7.4%, and per MIIT, mobile internet traffic grew 17.7% in Jan–Jun.
Expanding the breadth and depth of economic and trade cooperation. The 「Silk Road E-commerce for the Globe」 campaign advanced; the Cloud Lecture Hall’s Arab session inaugurated two overseas branches in Egypt and Morocco, attracting nearly 1,000 e-commerce practitioners from 21 Arab countries. Xinjiang, Hebei, Shaanxi and Jiangsu hosted 「Silk Road Quality Products」 events to help quality goods 「export to China」. On cross-border e-commerce import platforms monitored by MOFCOM big data, sales of Serbian wine, Bangladeshi coffee beans and New Zealand butter rose 122.5%, 112.2% and 69.4% respectively.
